Grand Rapids

Grand Rapids has won the title of Beer City USA by USA Today several times throughout the years. That’s because there are so many breweries to choose from! Many breweries brew their own craft beers in house, while others offer cool atmospheres to enjoy local beer. Check out this list of recommended breweries based on their location:

Downtown

  • Founders Brewing Company: One of the more well known craft breweries in the USA, Founders is known for its iconic beers like All Day IPA and Kentucky Breakfast Stout. They have expanded over the years and now brew most of their beers offsite from the bar/restaurant. Expect a lively atmosphere, both indoors and outdoors, and a wide variety of brews on tap. I recommend the Rubaeus and any salad from their food menu!
  • City Built Brewing Company: Located just in front of the Grand River, City Built offers a unique and diverse tap list with a focus on experimental and innovative styles. Look for their creative takes on Mexican food with their delicious tacos and nachos.
  • Vivant Brewery & Spirits: This brewery is one of the more unique atmospheres, because the building was once a chapel. Recently, they started offering house-made spirits along with belgian-inspired beers. The food menu is amazing because of everything being made by scratch. Try the Smoked Mushroom Reuben and Mexican Blues beer.

West Side

  • The Mitten Brewing Company: This baseball-themed brewery offers a fun and unique atmosphere with creative pizzas and a wide selection of beers. The pizza is so delicious! If you’re feeling adventurous, try the Westerdog or Curse of the Goat pizza.
  • Kusterer Brauhaus: You’ll feel like you’ve stepped into a German bierhall when you walk into this brewery! Here you’ll find traditional German-style beers like lagers, weissbiers, and other German specialties. They also offer some German food items like bratwurst, schnitzel sandwich, and doner kebap.

North Side

  • Archival Brewing: Known for their focus on historical brewing techniques and unique beer styles. I highly recommend visiting this brewery in the warmer months when you can enjoy sitting outside. They offer spacious seating both indoors and outdoors, but the outdoors is super chill and offers nice views of the surrounding fields.
  • Greyline Brewing Co: Offers a relaxed atmosphere and a diverse tap list with something for everyone. They frequently have nights with live bands and fun events throughout the year.

South Side

  • Speciation Artisan Ales: Tucked away off of Wealthy Street, Speciation may be easy to miss, but it’s so worth the visit! They offer a variety of wild and sour ales and their own seltzers. For something unique, try the Uptown Elixir, a farmhouse ale with chai.
  • Arvon Brewing Company: A really cool atmosphere on the south side of Grand Rapids. Known for their IPAs, Sours, and Pilsners, it’s a great spot for hop lovers. I recommend the Trail Pilz Pilsner.

  • Muskegon Brewing Company: Located right on Muskegon Lake, this brewery offers local beers, spirits, a diverse food menu, and beautiful views of the lake. A fun history fact, this brewery originated back in 1887! It is a local favorite with a diverse tap list and a friendly atmosphere.
